FAQ

Q. Wait, so what's going on here?
A. You have arrived in Ivalice during the FFXII-era. It's three years after the conclusion of the game and life is moving on as best it can. As with any war and occupation, cleaning up and rebuilding is longer and harder then the chaos of the fighting. The Senate in Archadia is still attempting to run ramshod all over the young Emperor Larsa. Nabradia remains annexed to Archadia, though a vocal populace is calling for HRM Queen Ashe of Dalmasca to lay claim to the Nabradian throne. As Lord Rasler's widow and the only remaining descendant of King Raithwall, the young queen's claim is strongest, though her concerns lie more with the rebuilding of her country than grasping hold of more territory. Rozzaria seems from the outside to be keeping to herself, having closed her borders to all. There are whispers in the streets however that one of their sons might be courting the desert queen in a bid for more land. Whether or not it is true is pure speculation for politicians and romantics. Meanwhile, clans continue to vie for control over territories in Jylland for profit and gain. There is talk that a rift into another world had been ripped open and closed, but that seems more fitting for a drunk's ramblings than reality... though is it? Rumor has it that strangers claiming to be from other worlds are appearing, bring chaos in their wake. Meanwhile, a Kiltia priest is proclaiming the coming Paradise and salvation for the suffering, legitimizing his doctrine with miracles.

Q. So how does this start off for me?
A. Perhaps you saw the grimoire, perhaps you didn't. Either way, you feel as though you blacked out and when you could see once more, you weren't anywhere familiar at all. There is a strange book on your person, though maybe you don't see it at first. Because you won't see the rift that brought you to Ivalice, but you'll certainly see the monster that followed you out of the Void. The stronger and/or more important you are to your canon, the stronger and more vicious the monster will be. It'll be a challenge, but nothing impossible to beat. The grimoire will record your valiant victory for you. Welcome to Ivalice.

Please note: Rifts will never open in cities or towns and almost never in a village. There is a plot reason behind this, so exceptions cannot happen. However, they are very prone to drop someone off where clanners or hunters are hunting, where lone travelers are passing, and most commonly in the wild and remote zones where dangers and fierce beasties dwell. Changed to facilitate easier interaction for players starting out.

Q. Grimoire? Say what?
A. Everyone receives a grimoire as they traverse the rift that hauls them away from home. (FFXII natives will also find themselves in possession of a grimoire without being rifted. It's a magical book whose power appears to be growing exponentially. It automatically records the story of your character's life as it is lived out in Ivalice. You can, naturally, doodle in it and use it as a personal journal as well, but your life will be recorded on those pages for all posterity. (The grimoire comm takes the place of what would have been a "network" in other games, or magic journal in a journal-based game.) The grimoire doesn't have the ability to work as a phone, but it can capture what you are doing as you go about your day if it feels it's significant. Other grimoires can react and display what you are up to as well if they feel it's important to their owner (or if being particularly naughty). Don't think of it as magic video though. Just little books that record everything.

Q. No phones, no magic talking journals? How do we network?
A. Well, there are enough technologically intelligent people around that if enough characters come in with cell phones, someone might reasonably work out how they work and how to replicate them. Patience, my young padawan, someday you can fulfill all your social networking needs.

Q. Can I throw my grimoire away? Destroy it?
A. Well... you can try if you want. You'll find it's indestructible by any means, mortal or divine, and even if it is discarded under a mountain range worth of rubble, it will be on your person again not 5 seconds later.

Q. What is there to do?
A. Join a clan, take on hunts, start a business, take up monster breeding for pelts, help with the rebuilding effort, get involved in the politics of the day. The only limit on what you can do is your own imagination.

Q. What if my character is from FFXII-era Ivalice?
A. You are a smidge different, my friend. On your application, we'll ask that you give us a brief synopsis of what your character has been up to the last three years. Any who aren't applied for right at the start of the game will be considered a missing person who will have to be rifted back into the world. Which means, we'll still want to know what mischief you were up to (lookin' at you Vaan) anyway.

Q. There are a lot of comms. Can you explain? I am really confused.
A. We broke up the holy triad of logs/network/ooc with the comms, but hopefully we can make each one understandable enough to keep things organized and moving smoothly.

Logs - This is the comm for all 3rd person prose. You probably know the schtick.

Grimoire - A multitasking comm. This is the spot to record any solo logs that you write up, as arguably it's how your grimoire would record your character's life. You may also use it as a way to record any physical correspondence between characters. Likewise, this is the zone for recording action threads. We do ask that you label what the content is clearly in the subject line.

Skyphones - This comm is not in use at the moment, pending IC developments. We've just got it in place for once that happens.

Commerce - This is the comm where new bazaar goods, auctions, fur shop requests and other business matters will be posted. Characters are welcome to reply in these posts if they are interested in any purchases, trades or sells. Any character who ICly opens any sort of business may also advertise their business with 'flyers' posted to this community. In addition, potential hunts and work offers will be posted here.

OOC - Pretty self explanatory, we think.

Q. Will we have character tags?
A. You will! And we are going to kindly ask that everyone tag their rp, even if they tag in only once. If we check your tags in the comms and you come up blank, we might question if you've been active, even if you have. So! Everyone just clickyclick add them and we're all a happy family.

Q. Anything else I should know about the comms?
A. Only that due to the limited number of hunts and tasks available, please don't hog all the fun for yourself. We're not going to police this, but definitely give the game at large the chance to accept a hunt if you've already taken one from the same posting. If a couple of weeks or so has passed and no one's touched it, feel free if you're so inclined.

Q. What characters are eligible for play?
A. Any named character from any Final Fantasy game, movie, or series with the words "Final Fantasy" title. This includes offshoot additions to the franchise such as Chocobo Dungeon and Crystal Chronicles.

Q. How many characters are allowed?
A. A total of four, with no more than two from the same canon. Canonmates may not in any way have any relationship with each other, be it friends or rivals. It would be acceptable to play Vossler and Jote, but not Larsa and Fran.

Q. What about Dissidia?
A. Dissidia is allowable as supplemental canon for anyone who took part in the War of the Gods. Bear in mind, this does count as a shared canon, so only one member from Team Cannon Fodder, or one guy from 2-4-7-10.

Q. Are AUs allowed?
A. Sorry but no, too much complication involved.

Q. What about doubles?
A. I think one Squall is all the more the world can handle. Sorry but only one of any character.

Q. Do you accept application challenges?
A. No. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please place a reserve if you would like to guarantee first consideration for a character.

Q. Can I bring in previous CR/game history?
A. Yes you can! There is a special location for this on the application. We do ask that you please be as thorough as humanly possible. If a character has become so changed from their experiences elsewhere that they are no longer recognizable as the same character (like a social butterfly becoming so maimed emotionally that they are now a loner), we will decline the previous game history.

Q. So I wanna bring in previous game history, how much of it is allowed?
A. We understand some people might have planned out their future families down to the great-grandchildren. The latest pull-point for any important game history is when the game in question closed and/or you left the game.

Q. Can I play an OC?
A. No. And sort of, yes. Due to the nature of FFXI and FFXIV, we will allow characters who were created for these games. There are stringent rules in place that they absolutely can not the "the one" the Big Damn Hero, the Savior of the World. They can, however, be any regular adventurer, craftsperson, etc etc that makes sense out of these games. Their applications will be given a triple-strict review to sift out Special Snowflakes and Mary-Sue Heavensgift. But, we will not allow OCs who are nameless SeeD hopeful cadet from Galbadia Garden, or others in like venue.

Q. What if my character is dead?
A. We do ask that all characters please be brought in prior to their untimely demise. We will review unique cases, such as Unsents and others who are so badass that they can dungeon crawl in the great beyond, on a case-by-case basis. Everyone else, please still be breathing, ok? Ok.

Q. I love Cecil! Can I play him from right after he trashes Mysidia?
A. We love Shipperdin too! However, we are going to kindly ask that the Moondad, and any other character, please be drawn from a point in canon far enough along that it will not be a hardship on the cast to accommodate them. That means that Cecil may not necessarily know he's got a derpy kid coming down the pike in 15 years, but he really should recognize his castmates from his original game. If the mods feel you've selected a point too early and cause undue difficulty for the cast, we will politely ask you to choose later. You don't have to be from the very end of your game, but do be considerate to the others who will comprise your castmates.

Q. How do canon updates work?
A. We're very sorry but for plot reasons, there is not anything in place for the working of a canon update. We respectfully ask when choosing your point in canon, that you select a space where you can be happy playing from for the long term. This includes not being able to tack on Dissidia or Dissidia 012 to your canon after your application has been accepted.

Q. I want to play a little seen npc, but I'm struggling to come up with three paragraphs of personality. Can I fudge that a little?
A. If the character doesn't have enough of a presence within their game to write three full paragraphs of canonical personality, then they are simply too minor to submit an application for. Please note, use of headcanon or unofficial outside sources to pad an application is not allowed. The moderators retain the right to decline any application which includes headcanon or external sourcing.

Q. What about the activity check?
A. We don't have formal activity requirements, per se. On the first of each month, we will give everyone one week to pop in to the Check-In just to let us know that they are still around and active. Failure to check in will be interpreted as a drop. Because we are being so lenient about activity, we do ask that you please do not squat a character. We understand entirely that sometimes your Great Aunt Boopsie dies and you lose your job and your car gets totaled and your Mom announces that she's having a baby while your dad is planning to marry someone younger than you. If life is doing crit dps on you, we understand, just let us know via the hiatus post.

Q. Is there anything else I should know about activity?
A. Just a couple of things:
-First, please be respectful to the game community at large. If the only tagging you are doing here is with one or two castmates, and no one else, and/or all your threads are smut, we are quite possibly going to ask you to branch out. There are other games, dressing rooms and museboxes better suited to PSLs and smutting. We don't mind a little adult funtimes action (appropriately marked and locked) or private scenes. But you are not an island unto yourself in a game, so please play with us! We like you!

-Second: Please respect canon relationships. We're not saying that somehow Cloud can't make his peace over time with a Crisis Core!Sephiroth. We are asking that Cecil not demand a divorce from Rosa so he can be fuckbuddies with Kain. Common sense here is all we ask; we're not going to babysit your threads. Penelo may find herself exasperated with Vaan on an hourly basis, but we'd prefer she not arbitrarily decide that he is the Devil Incarnate and refuse to speak to him ever again. Relationship respect isn't just about shipping, it's about all levels of relationships, be they friends, families, lovers, rivals, enemies. These relationships are fluid and subject to change, and we understand that, all we ask is that fairness and respect for the time necessary for change to occur be applied.

Q. Can we bring our pets?
A. Yes, within reason. We wouldn't expect Rinoa to live without Angelo. Keep it reasonable, is all we ask.

Q. What about my airship/car/motorbike?
A. Ahh the mechanical members of the family! Sadly, they won't quite fit through the rift with you. However, there will be a mechanic in place for re-finding/re-claiming them later.

Q. Yo! Where's my materia?!
A. Sorry guys, but this time, Yuffie's not to blame. Characters from games that utilize materia (namely VII and XIV), will find they now are the proud owners of bright shiny useless rocks. Maybe you can set them on the mantle and admire them?

Q. Why do I need a birthday/zodiac sign for my character?
A. Super ultra secret plot reasons!

Q. What if my character doesn't have a canon birthday?
A. That's alright. Just pick one that you think fits well for your character.

Q. Do I have to pick a job?
A. Yup. At least one to start out. If you read up over at the Jobs and Skills page, you'll find a little more info. You aren't locked into that job for life, it's just like getting a freebie worth several thousand gil right off.

Q. I'm a super-ultra-special-snowflake with mad world destroying powers!
A. That's great, buddy. Tone those down, will ya?

Q. No really, I wanna smash and kill!
A. We're all for a little chaos and destruction. Just run any village destroying rampages through the mods before you have at. As a general rule of thumb, if it'd make the nightly news, it's probably big enough to ask for a thumbs up first. (If we catch you setting fire to whole towns or holding a mass invasion of a nation without talking to the mod team first, you will be removed from the game. No exceptions.)

Q. Can I kill my character?
A. Well, yeah you can, but it's really not at all suggested. Because they will be um... dead. And no longer playable. And that would kinda suck. Obviously you can have them K.O.ed and let your local white mage cast Raise on them. But there's no "death penalties". There is just dead. We can't bring people back from the dead, it's not a pretty picture, we don't like doing it!! So if you think you're going to kill off your character, please talk with the moderators first, as it'll permanently remove someone from being playable. If you don't ask first, we reserve the right to null the scene, and declare the "deceased" rifted back home, and remove the player from the game.

(There is rumored to be one npc roaming the world who works miracles and reviving the dead might be among those. Whether or not it's true is pure speculation.)

Q. So what does happen if I drop?
A. If someone drops, a rift aligned with their grimoire, and only their grimoire, will open right on them and whisk them away, leaving a Void Monster in its wake.

Q. Problem! I'm a L'Cie and I've got this ticking timebomb of a brand on my body. What do?
A. All L'Cie brands will be frozen and remain so for the duration of their stay in Concordance.

Q. I heard this game was a sequel of Time and Tides?
A. Yes and no. Some of the moderator staff has returned to bring you a fresh new game with a different setting. There is an overall game plot, with plenty of sidequests to do, but these are fully independent of TnT.

Q. Do I have to have played at TnT to play here?
A. Why heck no! New game, new setting, new friends! We welcome friends old and new, no previous experience necessary.

Q. But I can bring in my TnT memories if I want to?
A. You can, just like anyone can app in any other previous game history that they like.

Q. If I did play in TnT do I have to import previous game history/memories?
A. Nope. You wanna start fresh, that is totally ok.

Q. What about other game history? Can I use that instead?
A. Absolutely! Just fill out the requisite information we'd like on your app.

Question about the post-death thing! What if someone dies (I'm thinking specifically in Dissidia 012) and is presumably going to be "revived" and sent back home? Would they be playable post-death if it was also post-revival, since that revival is something happening outside of the RP's mechanics? Wasn't sure if that would be do-able or not?

Ok, makes sense! It's really confusing/weird yeah, which is why I had to ask.

A quick couple of questions pertaining to Adelle and other Clan Gully members and hopefuls! I read on the clan page that Clan Gully's leader, Cid, seems to have disappeared. What were the circumstances surrounding his disappearance? Did he say he had some business and disappear or go out for a steak and never come back without saying anything? How is the clan taking that and about how long has he been gone by game start? Is anyone or anyones acting as leader in his absence?

I apologize if it's a lot of questions. It's just that, in Adelle's case especially, with certain events recently behind them, the grimoire deal, and people showing up claiming to be from other worlds, she's likely to go sticking her nose into things. She'll do so a lot more passionately depending upon the circumstances of Cid's absence. He's an eentsy weentsy bit more responsible than Luso, after all, and I imagine a good bit of the clan'd probably agree.

This was extremely helpful and I am A-okay with Adelle functioning as de-facto leader of Clan Gully in Cid's absence. A little responsibility at the start of a new chapter in her life might do her some good and you can bet she'll be poking her nose all up into this grimoire business, too. Who knows? She might even give a couple of sky pirates a call concerning all of this.

Thank you again for the prompt response!

Would it be possible to include knowledge of Dissidia for someone like Aerith for example? She obviously wasn't part of the roster in her own right, but she does seem to technically have been ~there~ so I just wondered if it would be even plausible to tack this canon onto her story? Definitely not as a warrior obviously, but moreso just as having an overall awareness of who was present for the 12th cycle and what happened.

Awesome, that sounds fair! Further to that, would warriors be able to recognize her, in turn? Possibly on an apparition that possibly came to their rescue! sort of level at least?

Question for Lumina! Can she still teleport, and how much is too much? Obviously she wouldn't be able to teleport out of the game or back into a rift, but are there any other limitations such as only over short distances, etc?

Secondly, she's also very much linked to the Chaos of the XIII world and summons monsters from it - would she be able to do the same from active rifts? Is it feasible for her to be able to tap into it in some way?

Thanks mods!

Ooh, the best kind! Thanks for the response(s)!

No worries on the teleporting - I wouldn't think she'd do much other than teleport around the city she's already in to creep to start with, but forcing her to use travel transport should be fun and make her interact with people when she can't exactly leave the conversation in the middle of the sky.

I'll be getting to that PM right now!
